Bah bola!
Sunday 2121
When I was 15, and when the Sabah Rhinos was at their glorious peak, I was one avid football fan.
Avid as in, I would keep tab to every matches they would play over the radio and discussed about it with my dad post match.
After every match, I would wait for the next newspaper publication and the first page I’d flipped was the last page, where they usually had Sabah Rhinos’ achievement printed in big fonts.
Yes, I was a proud Sabah Rhinos fan.
Who wouldn’t when our own ‘ayam tambatan’, Matlan Marjan had become the first Sabahan to score two goals against England in a friendly match back in 1991. Until, the infamous match-matching charges against him and five others in 1995.
Since then, I was never into football or soccer.
It does excites me when watching any football matches but I was never really that interested.
Reason would probably be the above. I was kind of heartbroken, if you can say so.
Second reason would be because, I can never understand how an off sides take place.
Alvin’s been explaining to me quite a few times already but I just couldn’t get it straight into my head.

But I thought you were the Rhinos fan before? How come you don’t know how an off side takes place, you ask.
I kept tab of the Rhinos matches via listening to the radio, remember? Not watching them on TV.
Third reason would be because I do not lay eyes on the good looking footballers. I mean like seriously.
Come on ladies, don’t deny the fact that some of you watch football because of good looking Christiano Ronaldo. ![]()
The only few soccer players that I know would be David Beckham (thanks to Vicky), Ronaldo for his gap tooth, Ronaldino for his ‘jonggang’ teeth and Christiano Ronaldo (Ok, maybe this one because of his good looks).
Other than that, I would be clueless as to who is who on the field, running, kicking and scoring goals.
And I’d be totally lost when you start talking their names instead of just team names.
But tonight, I will tag Alvin to camp in front of the TV to watch the World Cup final.

This is going to be my first time watching the WC match in full time, mind you.
All this while when the WC matches were on going, I was only ‘listening’ not watching.
So why now? When it’s already at its final match?
Well, a little birdie (No, no that birdie from Singapore ok) whispered to me Spain will be World Cup champion this year.
I am not saying I am a Spain fan. I wasn’t. Not until a hunch came to me telling that Spain will won over Germany and the hunch was true.

And now, I feel that hunch again. Ha! Ha! Hunch konon la kan…
Anywaysssssss, who ever won (although of course I hope my hunch will be correct), this will be a history for me.
The first time Chegu stays up for a football match.
At 2am some more, when the next day is a working day.
Happy watching the final you guys!
Until next post!
*hugs*

Oh yes the good old day where we actually LISTEN to football instead of watching it, haha. Matlan Marjan was not in my day, well at least not when I’m starting to fancy the mighty Rhino
I still remember that we went into the final of Malaysia Cup and it was held at Stadium Bukit Jalil. I guess most of us is pissed coz we need to go ‘over sea’ just to cheer for our team in the final. We lost that match and I guess that was the last season that I really follow the progress of the Rhino.
Yabah, I remember the one against Selangor….we all have to putih mata saja watched/listened the match from far when the Selangor fans can throng over to the stadium for the match.

Carol, kuda sa kalah! huhu.. im a big fan of Netherlands since the first time i saw Davis and Kluivert men… until now. i’ve been supporting them since the WC started. But still im proud of them.. they made it to the Final. it’s much better compare to the last WC. I can see that Spain played really well last morning and Holland rarely had the chance to score. but all-in-all, both team are good!
*thumbs up* to SPAIN and NETHERLANDS!
ps: im also a die hard fan of SabahRhinos. slalu sa pi tgk dorang men d likas Carol… sampaikan sanggup pergi balik dr telupid pi kk, then balik g telupid semata2 tgk dorang men ja… ehehehe..
pps: i just understand how offside is, this year! haha (kita serupa :P)
Memang nampak the Netherlands frustrated but yeah, it was a good match altho yg second half tetidur2 sa keboringan tunggu durang mo score.
Wahh bagus lagi ko pernah lagi pi tingu tu rhinos men…sa tia pernah oh bis time durang pnya victorious years tu, masi lagi teenager bah. kalo mo pi kk tu kan, kira very luxury sdh tu hehe
ya..ya, sa pun paham2 sdh altho kalau sa jadi referee, mmg sa tia pndai spot lah kalo off side. hehehe

I know Matlan Marjan because my father was an avid fan of the Rhino. (and maybe is because he keeps on telling us how disappointing Malaysia’s football teams today and glorifying the old days where the players were not affected by BS disease)
So back then, I didn’t know football but I get around names that were repeatedly mentioned in any football-related topics like Henry Soimpon and Scott Ollerenshaw. So when I flipped the newspaper, I read about them, and I knew them. Scott Ollerenshaw recently keluar d Astro bagi ulasan bola sepak and I was like ‘ee!! him!!’ and my cousin was like ‘you know him?’ and she claims that she knows football from A-Z. I said ‘Go google him. You’ll be surprised’. She did and I was right. She shrieked ‘OMG! He was playing for Sabah!’. Don’t you think it was funny? Yeah right. Die hard fan tp yang terjadi d sabah2 ja pun x tau. lol!!
Oh yes, the good ol days of the Rhinos. During that time, the Msia FA still allowed imported players. So we had good players such as Scott Ollerenshaw and Seslija Milomir aka Milo. After the banning of those imported players, our Sabah FA pun macam going down hill sudah. Anyways, did you know that Scott is now married to a Sabahan and residing here for good? His wife is a former National Karateka, Michelle Koh.

Kalau pasal “regular football” tu.. like state matches or asean or english premiere league or uefa tu, memang lah i ndak minat. But come World Cup.. memang tiap world cup ndak pandai miss since zaman budak2. My late dad punya influence I guess.. Have always loved the World Cup and have been losing sleep the past month due to this.
Syura has pegged Spain to win since World Cup started even though when she says it people look at her like she grew a third eye. But in the end, betul jugak! hahaha..
IT was definitely worth the sleepless nights and very the puas hati with the outcome..
But ramai also, not only you, yang turned off since that “match-mathching charges” tu dulu. Kesian the fans.
