Bukan sembarangan ah…

Sunday 1050

Heyho!
Wanna see Bam-Bam’s puppies at their tender 5 weeks old?
pups.jpg
Their first time to smell fresh air and see the sun.

And I think we can spot a mini Bam-Bam amongst them.
pups2.jpg
By that, I meant this little Bam-Bam is showing exactly like her daddy’s traits.
Galangas!
Show your hand to her, she’ll shove her front paw back to you as if trying to challenge you.
Really a Bam-Bam!

bam-bam.jpg
Bam-Bam at 3 months old. Don’t his pup above looks like him?

dsc_3694-copy.jpg

Just recently, a friend asked if she could mate her dog with Bam-Bam.
My first thought was, is she a house trained dog?
And I can’t help asking the type of breed the dog is.
It sounds very particular of me but I realized, after having Bam-Bam…there is so much about taking care a dog than just giving them food and let them have their freedom of moving around.

Taking care a dog is like taking care a child, literally.
You must be willing to give your love for these dogs and treat them like one of the family.
Spend time with them cos that’s what every dogs want from their owner.

There are many aspects concerning taking care these dogs that any dog owners should know.
And especially true when having dogs that stay inside the house.

Their health is our main concern.
Most dog owners would have bought these pure bred dogs with big sum of money as compared to having local dogs that normally given free of charge.
So, it is only right to take really good care of their health to ensure they have long life like Marley the dog in Marley & Me.
Never take for granted to not sending these dogs to their first three months vaccination.
I learned that the hard way before.
Even our five other mongrels were sent for vaccination despite some people said, “Ala, anjing kampung saja buat apa mau kasi inject. Tahan lasak bah dorang tu”.

dsc_3833.jpg
Our four mongrel dogs (minus Girlie, eldest of the pack who was sitting next to me when this picture was taken).

Their food is another main concern.
You don’t just simply give them food like we, humans, consume.
I know for a fact that most dog owners cooked rice that is mixed with chicken bones or meat to feed their dog.
Some only give their left over food to the dogs.
We did that to our five other mongrels thinking that it is economical and the dogs we have are not pure bred dogs.
Mongrels can stand just any food (We have changed their diet by giving them dog food now though).
But, not dogs like Bam-Bam or any other pure bred dogs that stay inside the house.

dsc_3825.jpg
Yes, they can eat that kind of food but be prepared to have poops that drop like milk shake the minute you scoop it up.
If you can tahan doing that several times a day everyday, then by all means, go on…feed your dog with any human foods.

You asked, “Why is it a concern? The dogs must have been trained to get their business done outside the house. Not inside.”
Yes, true. But in my case and some other dog breeders who cannot afford to send them to Dog Obedient School or have considerable amount of time to train them ourselves, there will be times when these dogs (like Bam-Bam) have to poop inside when they really can’t stand anymore.
And that brings us to point number three in taking care dogs.
Send them to Obedient School or train them wisely.

A cousin asked me if I ever sent Bam-Bam to obedient school and I said no because it is too expensive to send one here in Sabah.
Sending them there can cost me up to RM2000. Well, at least that’s what I remember reading on the price list when we visited one obedient school many years ago.
Then he replied, “That’s the price you have to pay when deciding to own a pure bred dog, right?”
And I was stunned.
He’s right.

I feel slight regret for not sending Bam-Bam to obedient school.
But at the same time, I feel it’s not really a demanding need since I don’t intend to send Bam-Bam for dog contest what-so-ever.
He doesn’t have to adhere to certain canine rules.
But then again, my advise, send your dog to obedient school.
Or, train them well yourselves.

And of course, when you intend to have them stay inside the house, you have to ensure their cleanliness.
Especially when you allow them to sleep with you on the bed at night.
In my case, making sure Bam-Bam is clean gives no fuss to me.
His short, smooth fur is easy to clean.
And he doesn’t have strong body odour (except his breath).
I only bathed him once in every 3-4 months. On other times, wiping his body with damp cloth is enough.

Finally, the question whether you are going to breed your dog or not.
If you don’t intend to, then it is best to neuter your studs and spay your bitches.
We don’t want unnecessary reproduction of canines when we don’t intend to take care of them, right?

If you decided to be a dog breeder, then the issue on what’s best for your dogs will be a matter of concern as well.
And when I say best, it refers to what type of dogs that will be mated with yours.
Is it healthy?
Is it of the same size cos big size dogs are DEFINITELY not compatible to small size dogs. Seriously.
It can posed lethal danger to your small dogs.
Is it house-trained in case your dog is staying inside the house?
These are the things that came to my mind when that friend asked to mate Bam-Bam with hers.

Honestly, I don’t mind so much about the type of breed of the dogs that are going to be mated with Bam-Bam.
So long they are compatible, I’m ok with it.
But since my Bam-Bam is not an ‘outdoor’ dog, it is only natural to have other bitches that stay inside rather than outside.
I want female dogs that are house-trained.
And of course, the bitch must ‘want’ the stud as well lah.
If they do not want each other, tiada lah puppies.

So yeah, that’s my rantings on dogs today.
I am not a professional dog breeder but I think, since I bought Bam-Bam, I have become one of those dog owners who will get annoyed if you tell me that I treat a dog like human IN a sarcastic tone.
Or when you tell me it is not good for me to neuter my dog because that will be too kesian for them.
There’s a reason for neutering and spaying.
You can read it HERE and HERE.

Stray dogs no more ok?

Until next post!
*hugs*

Wow, this is so informative. It comes just when I’m thinking of keeping a pet dog. Now that I’ve read this, seems like I’ve got a lot of things to consider then.:-) And goshh. those little puppies are so adorable. They wouldn’t grow out of their current sizes ba kan? Kalo suda basar tida suda cute durg ni kali.. hehe

Jipp, if they are anything like their dad, si Bam-Bam, then I believe their adorableness and their size will remain. The maximum height they can get, provided they follow their paternal mini pinscher gene is about 12inches.

I really hope the info given here will be helpful for other people who wants to own a pet dog. :)

i heard it is difficult to take care of a pure breed, but i didn’t think it’d be like that! baru ja plan mau piara pure breed…tapi not anjing rumah la…i’m kinda very particular with cleanliness, cannot tahan to see fur on sofas…heh

Pure bred dogs like golden retriever and german shepherd are most suitable if you dont intend to put them inside. Lagi bagus bah bcos their size besar kan, so better put outside. If not, habis berantakan dlm rumah. If you are a dog lover, I’m sure those things I listed out above are easy to follow. :)

Oh my God! Those pups are so cute. I like the way their ears flop down :D

Pebbles used to only eat her doggy biscuits but nowadays I prepare rice and some boiled chicken meat and she just loves it. She pushes her doggy biscuits away now … LOL!

I don’t have worries about her pooping everywhere cos she’s toilet trained and will only poop in the toilet except once in a blue moon when she memberontak la … LOL!

Hahaha soon when they are few months old, the ears will all go up, and huge. Just like their dad.

Oh my, Pebbles must be a very happy dog every day. I can’t do that with Bam-Bam lah. His stomach is very sensitive with food other than his dog biscuit. :(

Yeah. Me too. When they ask me how much I bought and spent money on Tenma, and I answer, they will go ‘WHATT??!!!’. Some even smirk and chuckles when they see me talking to Tenma.

This is my first time owning a pure breed maltese but I do a lot of reading about how to take care of a dog specifically maltese. Too bad I have to leave her with my mom who doesn’t know a thing about taking care pure-breed dogs! So I call her from time to time to check Tenma out. Like you’ve mentioned, taking care of pure breeds is not easy, well not really hard if you love your dogs but, but it does take effort, time, and energy. So for those who is thinking of having a pure-breed do some research before you decide to bring one home.

Honestly, I didn’t expect to have a mini pinscher as pet dog. I’ve been wanting shih tzu or a daschund. But i guess Bam-Bam is fated to be with me :D

Im sure your mom will take good care of Tenma. :)

    Happy Sunday Carol!

So cute la ur puppies. i like the innocent eyes… make me feel kesian and so in love.. :) i totally agree with u on this ‘Taking care a dog is like taking care a child, literally’. not only Dog but also to all animals. they live in this world just like us… and i cant understand why some people dare to abuse animals like dog and cat. haiyaa… so incivilization pnya org ni.

i like cats so very much…i treat and care about them as if they are babies.Sometimes i talk with them and i believe they understand it, kan? Strange but it’s true hehe but anyway, take good care of ur dogs yaa.. :)

im not really a cat person but yes, the feeling is mutual. i know some people who loves their cat dearly. as much as dog owners love their dogs.
    thanks noy!

Eeeeee.. cutenya Carol! :) So sebijik muka Bam Bam lah all the jrs.. :D

Nasib jak lah we cannot piara dogs. Kalau tidak, I want to have a pure breed jugak. I like labradors.. sebab bulu diorang tidak panjang kan compared to golden retrievers.. I’ve always liked big dogs.. until I met my friend punya Schnauzer.. kiuuut betul. And a good choice also for in-house dog.

Well.. apa pun, kesimpulannya.. ndak boleh piara! hahaha..

Btw, it looks like you’re doing a great job of taking care of your dogs!! :) :)

Hahaha harap2 lah the jrs punya temperament ikut the mom. If semua ikut Bam Bam, habis lah the next owner will have high blood. Haha!
Tida apa lah Shem, even ko ndak dpt piara, sia share2 lah with you gambar2 doggies.
    And thanks!

OMG! The puppies r soooooo cute! can i have one? LOL!

Bought my Dad a shih-tzu and now she’s his ‘girl’… Hahaha. He spent hours for her grooming. Godd forbid if I forget to buy the dog food or the wrong brand of dog shampoo. Hahaha… They both have a common ‘enemy’, my Mom…

I’m more of a cat person. I believe that when we r vey close with our pets, we’re ‘in tune’ with their emotions and they with ours… Don’t u think so? My cat pandai merajuk tu…hahaha

So far i know Shih Tzu is a great in-house dog. Very discipline. LOL about your mom being their common enemy.

Hahaha cat memang selalu merajuk bah kan? And very manja some more. We used to have cats at home. My MIL yang took care of them. I am not really fond of cat though.

    woooo..suma cumil2…
btw chegu, most of my dogs masuk dalam rumah. well, they know how to poopoo outside the house when we everyday train them. tp part pee pee tu yg susah sikit..
biasanya..every morning and evening before sleep biar tu pups di luar kijap…when they used to poo outside suda kan, lama2 they just want to poo outside.so everytime mo pooo, pandai minta kuar..
    hehe…that’s my experience la..tp x tau if anjing yg biasa2 tu…

ya, our dog yg si tinie…dia mcm tu lah kena train. pagi and petang kasi keluar rumah. pandai poo2 outside. but the problem with my bam bam, dia ni wanderer bah. kalau suda poo2, tida pandai masuk rumah balik. mau jaaaaaalan saja. and then rumah in-law sa blm kena pagar habis. ada lagi lubang yg buli durang susup keluar. jadi very dangerous to let bam bam go outside alone. so if pagi, jarang sa ada masa mo bawa dia jalan2 cos mau pi sikul. so petang2 ja la….si bam bam tida juga poop merata2. ada tu spots dia dlm rmh yg dia biasa pi poo2. itu sebab sa make sure dia punya poop sentiasa keras so that senang mau kasi bersih dan tiada strong odour…ya, yg pee2 mmg tida buli control la sebab dia jantan and very possessive. mana2 yg dia rasa territory dia kena threaten, terus dia mau spray.

Aww Carol… the pups are so cute!!! Can’t wait to see them all grown up!

You know well how I am with dogs, I am very much a dog person.. I tried having cats before but I just couldn’t, so I gave them away.. Now that I only have Noah at home, spoiled to the max bah tu anak… And you are so right on your points.. Noah is like a child to me.. And I also hate it when people think it’s stupid that I talk to my dog or call myself “mummy”..

By the way, you think Marley & Me is sad? Try watching Hachiko.. Trailer pun boleh nangis oh.. hehe

Haha..but Noah is so adorable. Punya sia kekiutan tinguk dia masa dia kena marah si Bo when he didn’t pee on his wee2 pad.

Oh I remember you told me about Hachiko but I haven’t got the time to download the movie.

very true when you said taking care of a dog is like taking care of a baby. it’s just that they don’t wear cloth diapers..hehehe..if yes, lagi mahal. we have 2 mix breed and my hubby jaga them like they are his son and daughter. even kena puji with vet coz the teeth are very nice and they are very muscular-almost everday jogging. The vey knows tu if the dog kena jaga good or not. i even pernah cried when one of them kena tangkap DBKK hahaha, siapa suruh alangas, the license tercabut so kena naik lorry DBKK.

ala dena, so kesian ur dog. so, managed to get your dog back ka?
you know, my bam bam is not registered yet bcos we thought since we are not living in housing area that is bound by dbkk rules, we dont have to worry so much about having them caught by dbkk. are we doing right?

After 2 weeks baru dia bulih bangun…..my niece bilang sia SOT sebab jaga tu dog mcm budak kecil….hehhehe…what can I say…I love my pets…. ;-)

Now…nah…I have 15 dogs in total mau jaga….matailah..hahahha….

15!!! Whoa josie, itu baru lah banyak. Hahaha….but ya, if we love our pet, we must be able to give our all to them. Jangan alang2 bah kan…

can you post to me one of them ka chegu? cute la! I once had a dog. Named Shaggiey. But then, don’t know where he went, and we family lost him.

Then changed to another dog, named Shaggy. A cute lil female dog, hit by a van and died straight away. =(

Now no more dog, worried the same thing occur…

Perhaps your family shouldn’t name your next dog with anything that rhymes with shaggy. cari nama lain :)
