Women’s Affairs
Saturday 1056
Are you a member of any societies?
Anything. Clubs in your work place, your neighborhood, or perhaps a much bigger society like the Sabah Women Society (for Sabahan women obviously)?
I am a dormant member of SOS Heart Fund.
Only attended meeting once since joining in 2006. *teehee*
Obviously, I am an alumni for my uni, Universiti Teknologi Mara but have not attended any of its’ alumni activities though.
A friend asked me to join Junior Chambers Tanjung Aru chapter but is yet too fill the form.
But last night.
I am officially a member of PeWanis.
That stands for Persatuan Wanita Sabah, Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Sabah.
Well, actually I don’t remember when did I sign up but I’m sure I did sign up.
Because if I haven’t , my superior would not have called me up and asked me to go for the PeWanis appreciation dinner last night at Beverly Hotel KK.
It was (obviously) an event for just women.
Tell you the truth, it was my first time attending a dinner function with most of the guests are women.
The guest of honor was Sabah TYT’s wife, YAB Toh Puan Datuk Seri Panglima Hajah Dayang Masuyah binti Awang Japar.
She is also the patron for PeWanis.
The dinner was also to celebrate PeWanis advisor, the Pengarah Pelajaran Negeri Sabah, Y. Bhg. Datuk Normah Gagoh, who was recently awarded with the ‘Datukship’ during the recent birthday of Sabah TYT.
I was feeling a bit awkward in the beginning because the people who sat beside me are those of Guru Besar, Penolong Kanan and the Pegawai Pelajaran Daerah.
Where as me, just a Guru Biasa.
I think, my superior has to ‘upgrade’ my status so that I would not feel awkward by introducing me to the other ‘orang besar’ as JU Daerah (district trainer) instead of just a ‘cikgu’. LOL!
But, it wasn’t long before I managed to get along with the ‘orang besar’ talks.
Well, you know…how much difference the conversations can be between a Guru Besar and a Guru Biasa?
After all, we are all teachers by profession.
We talk the same language.
The event…well, the usual makan2 thing, then karaoke singing (of which I contributed one song as representative from my district education office), lucky draws, Pertanding Fesyen Tudung and Poco-Poco dance (of course!).
It was good to know that YAB Toh Puan stayed till the end of the event…at around 11pm.
That was actually unusual for a person with lots of protocol to adhere with.
But it was indeed an honor to us.
By the way, PeWanis is a women society that opens to all women who either directly or indirectly involve in the Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Sabah.
So, if you are a daughter or wife to a teacher or those who work in the Education Department, as long as you are a WOMAN, you are also welcome to join PeWanis.
To those lady bloggers who are also teachers (you know who you are)…bah, marilah join PeWanis.
Some pictures here (although I was quite disappointed with my camera last night).

The only nice picture I could get of YAB Toh Puan last night

One of the winners for the Pertandingan Fesyen Tudung, who is also a Guru Besar

I don’t think I’ve joined any societies in my entire life. I’m just not the sociable kind of guy
Are you TOTALLY sure, Nick? LOL!
