(Wo)Men’s Best Friend

Sunday 2023

By now, you’d probably already know that i LOVE dogs.
We have five at my in-law’s house and two at my parent’s house.
Let me tell you about them.

Girlie is the oldest of the living dogs we currently own.
We bought her and her brother at Gaya Street for RM200 in 2004.
They are mongrels. But i think she is of the Terrier descendant.
But the brother, Bobo, went missing a few months after we brought them home.
Now, Girlie is 21 years of dog age. ( 1 human age = 7 dog age)

Munung is the second elder dog. A male dog. Mongrel too.
My FIL brought him and another female dog Sakura last year September.
Sakura died of car accident. *LOL* Sounds dramatic.
No lah..she was a case of hit and run.
You know lah…tagas dog who never see road. Hit it like it is some kind of field or some thing. Never look left or right.
Munung is 7 years old now. But still act like he is one puppy himself.
His BFF is Mona the cat.
Perhaps, we had him circumcised too soon therefore he never reaches puberty. I think lah…*LOL*

dogs-013.jpg Munung the Prince Cleopatra cos his eyes look like he has Cleopatra’s thick eye liner.

Last July, Girlie gave birth to six puppies with three distinct lineage that have gone through too many ‘mix-marriages’.
A ‘Terrier’ (which in this case maybe inherited from Girlie herself).
A ‘Rottweiler’ (now it looks more like a Doberman)
A ‘Chihuahua’ - the kampungan version.
The Terrier looking are Wokie and Buangkut (please don’t laugh, those who know what Buangkut is).
The Rottweiler-Doberman looking is named Rotty (duh!)
The Chihuahua looking triplets are S, M, and L (cos they are three different sizes but all with the same features).
However, we gave away S, M and L.
Too many snouts to feed.

dogs-024.jpg Buangkut the youngest of the puppies.

dogs-043.jpg Wokie the only male of the pack of 6 puppies and the most guntalou (coward)

dogs-051.jpg Rotty the ala Doberman dog. The naughtiest of ‘em all.

dsc06403.JPG One of the S, M, L puppies. Dunno which one was this. :)

Puppy is a male dog we keep at my parent’s house.
I think he is about the same age as Girlie.
This is another male dog who never knows how to grow up.
Sometimes, i think Puppy is just like Marley the dog in John Grogan’s Marley & Me.
Super hyper dog who doesn’t know the meaning of discipline.
But he guard the house like he had bought it himself. Ha!

dsc06377.JPG Puppy the forever-young dog.

Finally, last month, Dino Jr came into our life.
Specifically, my life.
She is given to me by a colleague of mine.
What prompted her to give me one of her puppies was the fact that i’ve seen Dino Sr and fell in love with him.

Dino Sr - the grand father. Ain’t he charming?

Dino Sr. was once thought to have lost forever.
Then, one day he turned up out of nowhere at the school compound.
I saw him first.
That Hush Puppy’s Basset Hound kind of eyes made my heart melt.
He was searching for his master at the school.

Seeing Dino Sr made me forced my colleague to promise me Dino Sr’s pups if ever he manage to mate.
He did.
The mother of his children is a local bred dog.
None of his children really have Dino Sr’s good looking features.
Then, one of Dino Sr’s children mated and gave birth to an all female pups.
One of them is the long-bodied, short brown fur and no-fear attitude puppy. The one that my colleague handed to me. I named her Dino Jr cos the minute i saw her eyes, she reminded me of Dino Sr.
Awww…that droopy eyes.

Dino Jr - the grand daughter

Even though Dino Jr does not have the slightest resemblance to Dino Sr, she does have the obedience behaviour that really makes me proud to own her.
She never poop inside the house although i have never actually done potty-train with her.
If she does, believe me you..she does it in the toilet. I’m not bluffing. Please.
She doesn’t pee anywhere inside the house - only on one particular floor mat which i think she purposely done to mark her territory. Yeah..yeah..i know, only male dog does that. But i think that’s what she is doing.
She plays catch which is quite rare for a kampungan dog like her.
If you have watched Garfield the movie…Dino Jr can do the ’stand up’ like Odie does. Not exactly the ‘Odie dance’ but yeah..something like that.

And there were a few nights i left her sleep inside the house.
When i woke up at night to go pee-peesh, i saw her sleeping outside my bedroom door, on the floor mat! (not the one she use to pee lah)
As if she’s guarding me from the outside.
The second she saw me, she wiggled her tail.
Don’t you just feel proud that your kampungan dog has that kind of behaviour?

Dino Jr has also experience joyride in my car to and fro KK-Keningau too.
Last Raya break, i brought her back to KK cos she was down with sickness.
Cacing perut.
She couldn’t sit still. All she wanted to do was stretch her neck to peek outside.
Since she is still short, i had to hold her and let her see the world outside the car.
But she behaved well.
A little bit shaking but no problem at all.
*LOL*

I hope to have her with me for quite a long time.
Just like Marley the dog.
My companion.
One of my happiness.
My best friend.

And that is the story of my dogs.
*clap*clap*
