Lest We Forget
Friday
Lest we forget…
31st August 1957 Malaya gained independence from the British colony.
22nd July 1963 Sarawak was granted independence from the British government.
31st August 1963 Sabah (North Borneo) was declared a self-government from the British colonial.
16th September 1963 the day Malaysia was formed.
Yes, those are facts and I’m very glad to have this little (yet bears huge impact) facts known in my heart and mind.
But as a Malaysian and having thrust that our Malaysia is still a peaceful country albeit the chaotic politics (which country doesn’t?), today IS a celebration of happiness.
A celebration to remind us of the past that brought as here.
A celebration to keep tabs of the people who have sacrificed loads to give what we have today. If it’s not much but better.
Whether it is 49th or 55th celebration, what matters is, we have been ‘freed’. That’s the reason behind our Merdeka celebration. But to answer the question whether we feel the freedom or not; that’s a different issue altogether. If we could not shake hands on the matter of our independence, what else can we tell our future generations of the kind of independent country we are?

Happy Merdeka Day!

not many know the facts Chegu. Even though there is something2 in my heart but we should be grateful and thankful to the people who sacrificed a lot for what we have today
I reckon too. Hence, this post and many other of those who have mentioned these facts…something in your heart? i gather it’s a bothered thought, no?
